Seventeen year-old Veronica “Ronnie” Miller’s life was turned upside-down when her parents divorced and her father moved from NYC to Wilmington, North Carolina. Three years later, her mother decides it would be in everyone’s best interest if she spent the summer in Wilmington with him. Ronnie’s father, a former concert pianist and teacher, is living a quiet life in the beach town, immersed in creating a work of art that will become the centerpiece of a local church. The tale that unfolds is an unforgettable story about love in its myriad forms – first love, the love between parents and children – that demonstrates, as only a Nicholas Sparks novel can, the many ways that deeply felt relationships can break our hearts… and heal them.

(Random fact: Miley Cyrus chose the name Ronnie for the main character.)

On September 15th, Dan Brown releases his highly anticipated follow up to Angels & Demons, and The Da Vinci Code, The Lost Symbol. Brown’s long time editor says “nothing ever is as it first appears in a Dan Brown novel. This book’s narrative takes place in a twelve-hour period, and from the first page, Dan’s readers will feel the thrill of discovery as they follow Robert Langdon through a masterful and unexpected new landscape. The Lost Symbol is full of surprises.”

On September 28th James Patterson takes a slight detour from his usual mystery thrillers with the non-fiction thriller The Murder of King Tut: The Plot to Kill the Child King.

Egyptologists have long presumed that the young king died of disease, or an accident. In The Murder of King Tut, James Patterson and Martin Dugard chronicle their epic quest to find out what happened to the boy-king. They comb through the evidence - X-rays, Carter’s files, forensic clues - and scavenge for overlooked data to piece together the details of his life and death. The result is a true crime tale of intrigue, betrayal, and usurpation that presents a compelling case that King Tut’s death was anything but natural.

Add these to your rental shelf today, and check out more hot upcoming titles here.

There are 206 bones in the human body. Forensic anthropologists know them intimately, can read in them stories of brief or long lives, and use them to reconstruct every kind of violent end. With a syndicated television series and numerous novels landing on the New York Times bestseller list, author, forensic anthropologist and academic,Kathy Reichs has firmly established herself as a dominant talent in forensics writing. Her latest novel, 206 Bones, is no exception.

<img align="right" width = "130" src="http://simonandschuster.net/assets/isbn/0743582454/BC_0743582454.jpg"/ style="margin-left:10px;" With her syndicated show on FOX now in it’s fifth season, Kathy Reichs is firmly established as a dominant talent in forensic mystery writing. Her latest novel is no exception.

The twelfth Temperance Brennan novel from Kathy Reichs, 206 Bones opens with Tempe regaining consciousness and discovering that she is in some kind of very small, very dark, very cold enclosed space. She is bound, hands to feet. Is she buried alive? In some kind of cell? Who wants Tempe dead, or at least out of the way, and why? Tempe begins slowly to reconstruct…

Tempe and Lieutenant Ryan had accompanied the recently discovered remains of a missing heiress from Montreal to the Chicago morgue. Suddenly, Tempe was accused of mishandling the autopsy — and the case. Someone made an incriminating phone call. Within hours, the one man with information about the call was dead. Back in Montreal, the corpse of a second elderly woman was found in the woods, and then a third.

Seamlessly weaving between Tempe’s present-tense terror and her memory of the cases of these murdered women, Reichs conveys the incredible devastation that would occur if a forensic colleague sabotaged work in the lab. The chemistry between Tempe and Ryan intensifies as this complex, riveting tale unfolds.

<img align="right" src="http://www.simplyaudiobooks.com/images/covers/large/9781600248535.jpg"/ style="margin-left:10px;"Alex Cross is back in, Trial, the latest novel by James Patterson.

The year is 1906, and America is segregated. Hatred and discrimination plague the streets, the classroom, and the courts. But in Washington D.C., Ben Corbett, a smart and courageous lawyer, makes it his mission to confront injustice at every turn. He represents those who nobody else dares defend, merely because of the color of their skin. When President Roosevelt, under whom Ben served in the Spanish-American war, asks Ben to investigate rumors of the resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan in his home town in Mississippi, he cannot refuse.

The details of Ben’s harrowing story–and his experiences with a remarkable man named Abraham Cross–were passed from generation to generation, until they were finally recounted to Alex Cross by his grandmother, Nana Mama. From the first time hear heard the story, Alex was unable to forget the unimaginable events Ben witnessed in Eudora and pledged to tell it to the world. Alex Cross’s Trial is unlike any story Patterson has ever told, but offers the astounding action and breakneck speed of any Alex Cross novel.

Philippa Gregory once again brings England's rich history to life with her latest book, The White Queen, released today!

<img align="right" src="http://www.simplyaudiobooks.com/images/covers/large/9780743582308.jpg"/ style="margin-left:10px;"It’s finally here! As someone who really loved The Other Boleyn Girl, I’m looking forward to listening to the latest book by Philippa Gregory. She once again brings history to life, this time focusing on the rise of the House of Plantagenet, who first ruled the Kingdom of England in the 12th century.

Brother turns on brother to win the ultimate prize, the throne of England, in this dazzling account of the wars of the Plantagenets. They are the claimants and kings who ruled England before the Tudors, and now Philippa Gregory brings them to life through the dramatic and intimate stories of the secret players: the indomitable women, starting with Elizabeth Woodville, the White Queen.

“The White Queen” tells the story of a woman of extraordinary beauty and ambition who, catching the eye of the newly crowned boy king, marries him in secret and ascends to royalty. While Elizabeth rises to the demands of her exalted position and fights for the success of her family, her two sons become central figures in a mystery that has confounded historians for centuries: the missing princes in the Tower of London whose fate is still unknown. From her uniquely qualified perspective, Philippa Gregory explores this most famous unsolved mystery of English history, informed by impeccable research and framed by her inimitable storytelling skills.

Philippa Gregory brings the artistry and intellect of a master writer and storyteller to a new era in history and begins what is sure to be another bestselling classic series from this beloved author.

If you don't recognize their names, you will likely recognize their voices. Congratulations to Simon Vance and John Lee, two narrators most recently selected as Golden Voices by the editors of AudioFile Magazine.

Congratulations to the latest narrators to receive AudioFile’s, Golden Voice awards! The editors have selected Simon Vance and John Lee for their exceptional audio book work. We couldn’t agree more.

Now, if their names don’t sound immediately familiar to you, we’re sure their voices do!

<img align="right" src="http://www.simplyaudiobooks.com/images/covers/large/0786156406.jpg"/ style="margin-left:10px;"
Simon Vance is the voice behind tons of popular audio books, including many of the James Bond series. I mean, seriously, the Dude is the voice of James Bond. How cool would that be? I secretly hope he warms up for work each day by introducing himself as “Vance, Simon Vance” at parties. But while most kids grow up hoping to be James Bond, Simon Vance honed his skills as a vocal artist early on. “I was very much into the BBC Radio comedy shows” Vance says “so most of what I did was to make up silly stories and record them using lots of silly voices. That set the stage for my career.”

<img align="right" src="http://www.simplyaudiobooks.com/images/covers/large/9781433242670.jpg"/ style="margin-left:10px;"
John Lee credits his narrating ability to good stamina. “My Dad worked as a carpenter until he was 79. The rest of the men in his family were blacksmiths. Some of my cousins are bricklayers and pipe fitters. We’ve got stamina.” That has certainly come in handy during his years as an audio book narrator. Lending his voice to books like, The Count of Monte Cristo and The Call of the Wild Lee has no intention of slowing down.

THE PRINCIPALS: Paul Wheeler: CEO of the Wheeler Enterprises empire, is shot dead during an armed robbery. Julie Rutledge: A savvy, cultured, and attractive Southern woman, was hand-inhand with Paul Wheeler at the time of his death. Derek Mitchell: A defense lawyer of renown, he goes to the mat to make a case for every client — and headlines for himself. Creighton Wheeler: The prodigal nephew of Paul and a playboy with a passion for movies. Even those closest to Creighton can’t be sure when he exits reality and enters the fantasy world of films.

STORYBOARD: The murder of Paul Wheeler has all the elements of a blockbuster: family rivalries, incalculable wealth, and a prominent man dying in the arms of his beautiful mistress. It’s a case that could earn Derek Mitchell even greater star power. When the Wheeler family approaches him about defending Creighton for his uncle’s murder — even before he’s charged — he jumps at the chance.

Although Creighton has a rock-solid alibi, Julie is convinced that he is responsible for Paul’s murder. Caught in several lies, and keeping secrets from Derek and the police, Julie is suspected of casting blame on Creighton to cover her own crime. Meanwhile, Derek fears he’s being duped…yet he burns with jealousy when he thinks of Julie with her late lover. But the more Derek learns about Creighton, the more he doubts the young man’s innocence. And hiding in a squalid motel under an assumed name is the one man, a career criminal, a killer, who knows the truth. The clock ticks down toward a shocking ending that can’t be known until the final SMASH CUT.

Philippa Gregory, author of The Other Boleyn Girl, has a new book coming out on August 18th and next week she’ll make her twitter debut .

Starting August 11th, Gregory will be writing a series of tweets in the voice of Elizabeth Woodville, the Plantagenet queen who is the central character of the new book, The White Queen. Her publisher, Simon & Schuster, say it is the first time a bestselling author has condensed their novel on twitter.

The 150,000 word story was a bit of a challenge to condense into nearly 250 tweets of 140 characters or less, but Gregory seems quite pleased with her results. “Tweets are a discipline, rather like a haiku, and the shortness of the sentence gives each one a rhythm which is really interesting for prose,” she said. “It was more like writing poetry than prose. And some of the tweets seem to me to be more arresting than the prose of the book.”

You can catch Gregory’s tweets as The White Queen’s Elizabeth Woodville from August 11th to 17th by following her at @ElizWoodville on twitter.

<img align="right" src="http://www.simplyaudiobooks.com/images/covers/large/1594831068.jpg"/ style="margin-left:10px;"In theatres tomorrow, Julie and Julia follows the lives of two different women separated by time and space, but both at loose ends. Now, normally this is where I would tell you that as usual, the movie is better than the book. However, Meryl Streep is amazing. And, from the previews I’ve seen she manages to totally transform herself into the famous chef.

But, score one for the audio book - it’s written and narrated by the original Julie. The woman who truly haunted the local butcher and sent her husband out at all hours for butter, butter and more butter. (Really, what doesn’t butter make better?) You’ll get to hear her story in her own voice, something that I think makes audio books very special.

Yet the movie, it stars Meryl Streep and she’s awesome. You know she’s awesome.

This truly is a movie - book grudge match and choosing a winner seems too tough to call. In my opinion, for Meryl’s performance alone, the movie’s worth checking out. But of course you should listen to the audio book too. You know, just for good measure.

New thrillers from Sandra Brown and James Patterson are on deck this month.

August is looking to be a good month for Mystery, Thriller fans! Two of the best-selling authors of all time (and long-time member favorites) have new books coming out that are sure to heat up the last days of summer.

Sandra Brown is back this summer with Smash Cut. ‘Smash cut’ is a movie term referring to a sudden shift in scene, made specifically to shock the viewer. Brown explains this in a video on her offical website. “You see, my villan in this book is a film scholar. He eats, drinks, and sleeps movies. His conversations are sprinkled with quotes of movie dialogue - some you’ll recognize, and some you may not. The research for this book was fun. Watching movies, trying to find the perfect line of dialogue to tie into the scenes that I was writing. Sometimes it got a little creepy, as does my villan. As the story progresses, he takes his fetish a bit further than quoting dialogue and actually begins re-enacting ….. well, I guess you’ll just have to read it, won’t you?”

The Smash Cut audiobook doesn’t come out until August 11th, but you can beat the rush and add it to your rental shelf now!

Next up, on August 24th, James Patterson, world record holder and veritable story machine, is set to release the 15th book in his Alex Cross detective series, Alex Cross’s Trial.

Trial is written in the voice of Detective Alex Cross, as he passes down the family tale of his great uncle Abraham and his struggle for survival in the era of the Ku Klux Klan.

Washington D.C. lawyer Ben Corbett fights against oppression and racism and risks his family and his life in the process. When President Roosevelt asks Ben to return to his home town to investigate rumors of the resurgence of the Ku Klux Klan there, he cannot refuse.

When he arrives in Eudora, Mississippi, Ben meets the wise Abraham Cross and enlists him to introduce Ben to the hidden side of the idyllic Southern town. Lynchings have become commonplace and residents of the town’s black quarter live in constant fear. Ben aims to break the reign of terror–but the truth of who is really behind it could break his heart.

Add Alex Cross’s Trial to your rental shelf now!

Reading has never tasted so good!

Ben & Jerry’s is considering launching a library-themed ice cream flavour, after one New Jersey librarian gathered thousands of supporters for his plan, using the famous ice cream makers to raise awareness of libraries “in the face of stagnant or slashed state, county, and municipal budgets,” says Burlington county librarian, Andy Woodworth.

Suggestions for flavours include Gooey Decimal System, Overdue Fine as Fudge Chunk and Sh-sh-sh-sherbert. Woodworth writes that “libraries are awesome, Ben & Jerry’s ice cream is tasty, therefore a library-themed Ben & Jerry’s ice cream would be tasty awesome.”

Who can argue with that?

Being all about tasty awesome myself, I would like to suggest a few specifically audio book related flavours to include in that list. I mean, listening to a book keeps your hands free so you can eat more! Seems like a good fit to me.

Books On Grape: a delicious and refreshing grape flavoured sherbert.

Sundae Reading: french vanilla ice cream, with thick gooey chocolate fudge ribbons, chunks of waffle cones, and cherries.

Sprinkly Audiobooks: light strawberry flavored ice cream with soft graham cracker squares and of course, lots and lots of sprinkles.

Delicious, right? All this blogging is making me hungry! What audio book themed ice cream flavours would you want to try?

It's a good day to be a Simply Audiobooks download member!

<img align="right" src="http://www.simplyaudiobooks.com/images/covers/large/9780739384183.jpg"/ style="margin-left:10px;" You’ll want to download this audiobook for sure. Heralded as even better than The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, Stieg Larsson’s latest book will likely be topping best seller lists for weeks to come. (I mean, if Lauren Conrad can do it…)

Mikael Blomkvist, crusading journalist and publisher of the magazine Millennium, has decided to run a story that will expose an extensive sex trafficking operation between Eastern Europe and Sweden, implicating well-known and highly placed members of Swedish society, business, and government.

But he has no idea just how explosive the story will be until, on the eve of publication, the two investigating reporters are murdered. And even more shocking for Blomkvist: the fingerprints found on the murder weapon belong to Lisbeth Salander—the troubled, wise-beyond-her-years genius hacker who came to his aid in The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo, and who now becomes the focus and fierce heart of The Girl Who Played with Fire.

As Blomkvist, alone in his belief in Salander’s innocence, plunges into an investigation of the slayings, Salander herself is drawn into a murderous hunt in which she is the prey, and which compels her to revisit her dark past in an effort to settle with it once and for all.

So like seriously, Lauren Conrad is like totally on the like New York Times Best Seller List, like for the like 4th week in a row, like. Thankfully though I hear her book is written in complete grammatically correct sentences, unlike most of the dialogue on The Hills.

<img align="right" src="http://www.simplyaudiobooks.com/images/covers/large/9780061902017.jpg"/ style="margin-left:10px;">OMG. Lauren Conrad is like totally on the New York Times Best Seller list. And, she’s like been there for like 4 weeks. Like, seriously.

Now if you’ve seen The Hills, this is the part where we stare awkwardly at each other for a second, fiddling with something in our designer handbag.

5 - 4 - 3 - 2 - 1… and back to the blog.

In an interview with People Magazine, Conrad said, “If someone said to me five years ago when all this started that I would one day make the New York Times Best Seller list, I wouldn’t have believed it.” Well frankly, I still don’t believe it and I’m looking at the list right now!

I should mention that she’s number one in the “Children’s Chapter Books” section, but still, she’s on the freakin’ New York Times Best Seller list! So aside from being on a television show simply because her parents are rich, and “working” at Teen Vogue, Conrad can add “author” to her resume.

Personal feelings about L.C. aside, my biggest complaint about the book is that it’s not the trashy tell all complete with thinly veiled insults I’d hoped it would be! Released just in time to become the ultimate beach companion, the book isn’t soap-opera enough for a fun summer read. For me, it’s the literary equivalent to the unimaginative a-line dresses from her fashion line. But hey, at least she uses proper spelling and full sentences, right?

I hate to admit this, but I’m actually more interested in the book Speidi is apparently working on. You can always count on them for the insults, name dropping and just plain crazy that makes for an entertaining summer audio book.

I pulled up to a house about seven or eight. And I yelled to the cabby yo, home smell you later. Looked at my kingdom I was finally there. To settle my throne as the prince of Bel Air... and according to the original Aunt Viv, Janet Hubert, sabotage any actor with talent on the show. Ouch.

A case of jealousy, or are there a few skeletons in Will Smith’s closet?

Janet Hubert, the original Aunt Viv from the 1990’s television sitcom, The Fresh Prince of Bel Air, has penned a tell all book, “Perfection is Not a Sitcom Mom” revealing a few secrets about the show’s star, Will Smith.

Most notably she writes, “Smith had people around him who made sure no one outshone him. I was happy to see Don Cheadle become the quality actor that he is, and often wondered how he made it past one episode, as Hilary’s boyfriend, being such a fierce actor. No one could be on The Tonight Show that first season, except Will. And I mean no one.”

Now I have to admit, I like Will Smith. He seems like he’d be a nice guy. And anyone who has seen the first few episodes of the first season of the Fresh Prince of Bel Air knows his acting was terrible. He mouthed the lines of the other characters in between his own! Seriously! Watch for it. So only getting actors on the show who were worse, well, that seems nearly impossible. Even if they were able to find the worst cast of actors in the history of television, would anyone have watched it?

Still, in favour of the original Aunt Viv, I totally preferred her over the new actress they brought in, and never really understood why they replaced her. “Perfection is Not a Sitcom Mom” is her side of what happened, and our chance to get a glimpse behind the scenes of the popular sitcom.

Your move, Will. I’m not sure if Uncle Phil will be able to bail you out of this one.

"Excuse me sir, can you take your butt out of my face?" Jim Dale reveals the inspiration behind some of his Harry Potter voices, and talks about narrating all 7 of the audiobooks. Today, save 40% when you buy Harry Potter and The Prisoner of Azkaban.

By now, most of you likely know the Harry Potter story, be it through the books or the movies. But you might not know Jim Dale. And trust me, this is a name you want to remember.

Jim Dale is the narrator for the Harry Potter audiobooks and a highly accomplished one at that.

He has won 10 Audie Awards; 12 Earphones Awards; 2 Grammys; his narration work on the Harry Potter series earned him the honor of being the first ever inductee into the Audio Publisher Association’s Hall of Fame; he holds THREE Guinness World Records, all of them related to audiobooks, 2 directly to Harry Potter.

Prisoner of Azkaban review:

It’s pretty obvious that J.K. Rowling’s story telling is magical,
but it’s also pretty obvious that Jim Dale’s reading of it gives its “magic” an entirely new dimension.
The Narrator shows no mercy for his listeners as he hisses and snarls and cackles through one creepy scene after another.
But he is also - and often - laugh-aloud funny.
Rowling and Dale together are “word magicians” - without potions or spells, they weave enchantment.
